Laser cut screens turn a fence or gate into a feature. A sheet of 2–3 mm aluminium, weathering steel (Corten) or mild steel is cut by laser to a pattern – geometric, botanical, Australian natives, Moroccan, abstract or your own design – then powder-coated (or left to rust, for Corten) and framed. Used as a whole fence, as infill panels in a Colorbond or slat fence, as gate faces, or as a free-standing screen, they add privacy and shadow-play that no standard fence can.

We design the layout, arrange the cutting and coating, fabricate the frames, posts and gates, and install. The photos below show our louvre and slat screens and gates – the same framing, posts and colours we use for laser cut panels.

Where laser cut panels are used

Feature front fence – full-height laser cut panels between posts, often in Corten or matte black, with a matching pedestrian gate.
Gate infill – a plain slat or Colorbond gate with a laser cut centre panel or a whole laser cut face; house numbers can be cut into the panel.
Privacy screen – beside a deck, spa, pool or bathroom window; backed with a solid sheet where full privacy is needed.
Wall topper and infill – 300–600 mm panels on a masonry wall or as infills in a long Colorbond fence to break it up.
Utility screens – bins, air-conditioners, pool pumps, water tanks and meter boxes.
Garden art – free-standing panels on flanged posts, uplit at night.

Design process

Site measure: panel sizes, post positions, what needs screening and from where.
Pattern: pick from the library or send artwork; we return a scaled drawing with the open percentage and how it looks at your panel size.
Material and colour: aluminium in a Colorbond-matched shade or black is the usual choice; Corten for a garden feature.
Cut, coat and fabricate – two to three weeks – then a one-day install for most screens and gates.

Gates

Laser cut gates are built as a welded frame with the panel fixed inside, so the pattern is framed cleanly and the gate stays rigid. Aluminium panels keep gate weight down, which matters for hinges and motors. Pedestrian gates take magnetic or keyed latches; double and sliding gates can be automated – see automatic gates.

Common questions

What are laser cut screens made from?

Aluminium sheet (2–3 mm) is the standard for residential screens and gates – light, rust-free and powder-coated in any colour. Corten (weathering steel, 2–3 mm) gives the rusted-orange finish; mild steel (2–3 mm) is galvanised and powder-coated for larger structural gates and commercial work.

Can I choose my own pattern?

Yes. Choose from a library of geometric, botanical, Australian-native and abstract patterns, or supply your own artwork or a logo. Patterns are scaled to the panel and adjusted so the sheet stays rigid – there is a minimum bridge width between cut-outs.

How private are laser cut panels?

It depends on the open area of the pattern. A 30% open pattern is quite private; 50% is a filtered screen; 60–70% is decorative. We can email you the open percentage of any pattern before you decide, and back the panel with a solid sheet or a slat panel where full privacy is needed.

Are laser cut panels used as fences or just as screens?

Both. They work as full-height feature fences and gates, as infill panels between posts on a Colorbond or slat fence, as toppers on a masonry wall, and as free-standing garden or pool-equipment screens. Backlit at night they become a feature in their own right.

Can a laser cut panel be a pool barrier?

Only if the pattern meets AS 1926.1 – openings that will not allow a 100 mm sphere through, no footholds in the 900 mm non-climbable zone, and 1.2 m height. Many decorative patterns do not qualify; we will tell you which do.

Lead time and supply only?

Custom panels are usually cut and coated in two to three weeks. We supply panels only, or fabricate the frame, posts and gates and install across Sydney.
