Every Colorbond fence we build uses genuine Colorbond steel made by BlueScope Steel Australia – you can check the laser-etched insignia on each sheet. Posts go 600 mm into the ground with a full 20 kg bag of concrete each, and a 30 m fence including demolition of the old one is normally finished in one to two and a half days.

You can have any Colorbond colour, either sheet profile (Standard/Trimdek or New Style/Zig Zag) and a different colour frame to the sheets, all at the same cost. Heights run from 1.5 m to 2.4 m; add a 300 mm lattice, louvre or slat insert for a decorative top, or extend an existing fence instead of replacing it.

We handle the whole job: removing the old timber, Colorbond, brick or bonded-asbestos fence, building a treated pine sleeper retaining wall where levels differ, fitting single, double or sliding gates, and providing your neighbour with a copy of the quote for a shared boundary.

Replacing an old fence

Most of our work is replacing a tired timber or rusted Colorbond fence on a shared boundary. We demolish and remove the old fence, dig out old footings where needed, and set new posts on the boundary line. If your ground level differs from your neighbour's, an H4 treated pine sleeper retaining wall goes in directly under the new fence.

Under the NSW Dividing Fences Act the cost of a boundary fence is normally shared equally with the adjoining owner. We can supply a copy of the quote for your neighbour.

Decorative tops: lattice, louvre and slat

A 300 mm insert in the top frame turns a plain Colorbond fence into something more architectural without losing privacy. Lattice is the classic, louvres give privacy with airflow, and horizontal slats suit modern homes. Any insert can be a different colour to the sheets.

Extend instead of replace

If your existing Colorbond fence is sound but too low, a 300 mm or 600 mm height extension bolts onto the existing posts with matching post extensions, a rail and your choice of insert. It is quicker and cheaper than a new fence and keeps the neighbour's side unchanged.

Common questions

How high can a Colorbond fence be?

The standard is 1.8 m. We also build 1.5 m, 2.1 m and 2.4 m, and can supply 1.2 m on request. Fences over 1.8 m normally need council approval.

Do I need council approval?

Not for a standard 1.8 m boundary fence in most cases. You will need approval for fences over 1.8 m, on heritage-listed properties, and for solid front fences in many areas – front fences in Sydney generally cannot be solid Colorbond. Check with your council or ask us.

Can the two sides be different colours?

Yes. We can double-sheet the fence so each side has different coloured sheeting. The frame (posts and rails) stays one colour on both sides. Note that double sheeting can trap water between the sheets, so we recommend it only where the look matters more than long-term drainage.

How long does it take?

A 30 m fence including demolition and removal of the old fence typically takes 1 to 2.5 days. We usually start within one to two weeks of you accepting the quote, weather permitting, and call the day before we start.

Is there a warranty?

Genuine Colorbond steel is covered by BlueScope's manufacturer's warranty – after full payment we send you the application details, and you apply at bluescopesteel.com.au/warranties. Warranty terms and periods are set by BlueScope.

What about small dogs?

We can lower the bottom rail to close the gap under the fence.
