Colorbond fence replacement
When the old fence has had its day, we take it away and build a new Colorbond fence on the boundary – usually within one to two and a half days for a typical 30 m run.
Most Sydney boundary fences are shared, and most of them are old timber palings that have rotted at the post or blown over in a storm. Replacing them with Colorbond gives both neighbours a straight, private, low-maintenance fence that will outlast timber by decades.
We remove the existing fence – timber, rusted Colorbond, chain wire, a brick wall or up to 10 m² of bonded asbestos fencing – clear the fence line of foliage and small trees if needed, and dispose of everything. New posts go in 600 mm deep with a full bag of concrete each, and where your ground level is higher or lower than next door we build a treated pine sleeper retaining wall directly under the new fence.
Concrete cutting and core drilling are available where posts have to go through paving, slabs or driveways.

Sharing the cost with your neighbour
Under the NSW Dividing Fences Act 1991, adjoining owners are generally liable for equal shares of a 'sufficient dividing fence'. In practice: agree on the fence with your neighbour, give them a copy of our quote, and split the cost. If a neighbour will not respond, NSW Fair Trading and the Local Court have a formal notice process – we are happy to explain what we have seen work.
You can build a fence without your neighbour's agreement, but you may then be unable to recover their half. A good-neighbour fence in Colorbond looks the same from both sides, which usually makes agreement easy.
What happens on the day
- We call the day before to confirm the start time.
- Old fence and footings are removed and taken away.
- Boundary line is set out; posts are dug and concreted 600 mm deep.
- Rails, sheets and any inserts are fitted; gates are hung and latched.
- Retaining wall sleepers go in first where levels differ.
- Site is left clean. Full payment on completion by cash, bank transfer or card.
Garden clean-up, small tree removal and brick wall removal
A fence line is often the last place a garden gets attention. Before we can set out a new fence the boundary needs to be clear, so we offer site preparation on its own or as part of a fence job: foliage clearing along the fence line, removal of small trees and stumps that are pushing on the old fence, cutting back overgrown hedges and vines, and taking away the green waste.
We also demolish and remove old brick and besser-block boundary walls – cracked, leaning or simply in the way of a new Colorbond fence. Footings are broken out where the new posts need to go, rubble is carted away and the ground is left ready for the new fence or a sleeper retaining wall. Repair instead?
If only a post or two is leaning, a repair can make sense. But if more than about three posts need re-concreting, the fence was probably not built well and we will recommend replacing it rather than charging you to fix it twice. See fence and gate repairs.
