Lapped timber fencing

Lapped fencing starts as a single paling fence – 150 mm treated pine palings on three rails – then adds a 100 mm paling over each gap, overlapping the palings either side by about 25 mm. The result has no gaps, even after the timber shrinks, and a pleasant shadow line.

Without a capping rail the paling tops are exposed to weather, so lapped fences suit gardens where the fence is mostly hidden by planting or where budget matters more than the finished top edge. For the tidiest result choose lap and cap.

Built on galvanised steel posts as standard, in 1.5 m to 2.4 m heights, with matching timber gates.
