Colorbond Sheet Fence Extensions Sydney

A sheet extension kit contains two C-post extensions matched to your existing post profile, two rails, Colorbond sheet infill and colour-matched screws. Because it uses fence sheet rather than a fixed-size insert, a sheet extension can be made to almost any height, not just 300 mm or 600 mm.

Choose the sheet profile to match your existing fence – Standard/Trimdek or New Style/Zig Zag – or use the opposite profile deliberately as a feature band. Any Colorbond colour; the extension can be a different colour to the fence below.

Solid sheet gives the most privacy and blocks the most noise and wind – which also means the most wind load on the posts. For long, exposed 600 mm runs we check post condition carefully and may recommend louvres instead.

Compatibility – what we check first

Post profile must match. Colorbond C-posts come in three profiles – Lysaght, Slimline and Standard (double-ribbed). The extension post slides over or fixes to the existing post and has to be the same profile. Look at the top of a post or send us a photo.
Posts and footings must be sound. An extension adds height, weight and wind load. If posts are loose, rusted at ground level or the concrete has cracked, extending is not the right fix – we will tell you and quote a repair or replacement instead.
Total height may need approval. A 1.8 m fence extended by 300 mm becomes 2.1 m, and by 600 mm becomes 2.4 m. Fences over 1.8 m generally need council approval in NSW; heritage-listed properties always do. Check with your council before you order.
Shared boundary? An extension changes your neighbour's side too. Talk to them first – under the Dividing Fences Act you generally cannot compel a neighbour to pay for a fence higher than a 'sufficient' dividing fence, so extensions are usually paid for by the person who wants them.
Not every fence suits every extension. Louvre and slat inserts are lighter than solid sheet; a 600 mm solid sheet extension on a long, exposed run adds significant wind load. We assess this on site.

Pool fence extensions

Sheet extensions are often used to raise a boundary fence that forms part of a pool barrier. Remember that the whole barrier must comply – height measured from the outside, non-climbable zones and gates – not just the extension. See the NSW pool fencing information centre.

Common questions

Will an extension fit my fence?

If your fence is Colorbond with sound posts and footings and you know the post profile (Lysaght, Slimline or Standard), almost certainly. Send a photo of a post top and the number of panels and we will confirm before anything is ordered.

300 mm or 600 mm?

300 mm is the most common – it takes a 1.8 m fence to 2.1 m, enough to block a neighbour's window or deck line. 600 mm takes it to 2.4 m, the maximum we build, and is usually reserved for privacy from two-storey homes. Both heights normally need council approval.

Do I need council approval?

In most NSW councils a boundary fence over 1.8 m needs approval, so most extensions do. Some councils allow slightly higher fences as exempt development in certain circumstances – check your council's rules or ask us what we have seen in your area. We do not guarantee that an extension is permissible at any given property.

Can I extend a timber fence?

Our extension kits are designed for Colorbond C-posts. Timber fences are usually better replaced, or we can quote a new Colorbond fence with an insert top.

How long do custom extension panels take?

Generally one to two weeks from ordering the material. Primrose and Woodland Grey louvres are stocked colours.

What is in a kit?

Two C-post extensions, one rail, one insert (louvre, lattice, slat or sheet) and a bag of colour-matched tek screws – one kit per existing panel.
