Brick wall removal
Cracked, leaning or simply in the way of a new fence – we demolish old brick and block boundary walls, break out the footings where the new posts go and take the rubble away.
Many older Sydney boundaries still have a low brick or besser-block wall, often with a timber or chain-wire fence on top. When the wall has cracked, started to lean, or is in the way of a straight new Colorbond fence, the sensible step is to remove it and build the new fence on a clean line.
We demolish the wall by hand and machine, break out the footings where the new fence posts need to go, cart the rubble away and leave the ground ready for the new fence or a sleeper retaining wall. Where the wall was holding back soil, an H4 treated pine sleeper retaining wall goes in directly under the new fence.
Brick wall removal is quoted on its own or bundled with a fence replacement. Concrete cutting and core drilling are available where posts have to go through paving, slabs or driveways.
What happens on the day
- We confirm the boundary line and check for services (power, water, gas) near the wall.
- The old fence on top of the wall, if any, is taken down first.
- Bricks or blocks are demolished and loaded for disposal.
- Footings are broken out where the new posts will sit; the rest is removed or left below ground as agreed.
- Ground is levelled and the new fence or retaining wall goes in – often the same day for short walls.
- Site swept and cleaned. Payment on completion.
Shared boundary walls
A boundary wall is usually a dividing fence under the NSW Dividing Fences Act 1991, so the cost of removing and replacing it is normally shared equally with the adjoining owner. Agree the work with your neighbour first and give them a copy of our quote. If the wall is a retaining wall as well, the owner whose land it supports may have a greater responsibility – ask us and we will explain what we have seen work.
Removal only, or removal and a new fence?
Most customers replace the wall with a Colorbond fence – straight, private and low-maintenance – sometimes on a sleeper retaining wall where levels differ. We also remove walls for landscapers and builders with nothing going back in their place. Tell us which in the quote form and choose Brick wall removal as the service.
